Fire hydrant maintenance for 2025 continues in Bloomington

BLOOMINGTON– City of Bloomington Utilities (CBU) will continue fire hydrant flow testing and maintenance next week in Fritz Terrace and the N Russell Rd/Devonshire area. CBU’s contractor, ME Simpson, will be on the east side, including Hyde Park, Covenanter, and Ashwood neighborhoods.

Hydrant testing, flushing, and maintenance are expected to continue throughout the city until August to ensure that fire hydrants are clear of debris, in good working condition, and that the amount of water flow is communicated accurately to firefighters. Signage is displayed in the affected areas on the day the maintenance takes place, and crews carry proper identification as employees or contractors for CBU. The schedule is subject to change if each day’s work is not completed as scheduled or in case of inclement weather.

Customers in these areas may notice fluctuations in pressure and/or discoloration of their tap water during hydrant maintenance. If water appears discolored, customers are advised to run their cold water tap until it clears. It is also recommended that customers postpone washing clothes and limit the use of hot water until the cold water clears.

If customers have further questions, CBU can be contacted at 812-339-1444.
