Marilyn Sue Gifford, 78, of Bedford, passed away Friday, April 18, 2025, at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital.
Born January 20, 1947, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Robert C. and Wilma Pearl (Wright) Connell. She married Michael O. Gifford on April 3, 1970, and he survives.
Marilyn was a 1965 graduate of Mitchell High School. She was the Indian Creek Township Trustee for 12 years and had also worked for Associate, a finance company. One of her greatest accomplishments while a trustee was getting a fire truck for the Indian Creek Volunteer Fire Department. Marilyn was an active Lawrence County 4-H Leader and member of the PTO while raising her daughter. She loved traveling with her husband, going to car shows, and working with her flowers. She was active through the years with the Persimmon Festival and was a past winner of the novelty contest. Marilyn shared her competitive spirit by playing games with her grandsons.
Survivors include her husband, Michael Gifford of Bedford; daughter, Marci (Scott) Staley of Veedersburg; grandsons, Michael Scott Staley and Marcus Allen Staley; and siblings, Robert L. Connell of Mitchell, Susan E. Wilson of Mitchell, Steven C. Connell, and Nancy Connell of Canton, Michigan.
Her parents, sister, Jo Ann Connell Roberts, and sister-in-law, Phyllis Connell, preceded her in death.
Graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, at Mitchell Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center.
