VIGO CO. – On Monday, April 7, detectives from the Indiana State Police Putnamville Post arrested a Terre Haute man after he allegedly posted harassing and threatening statements on social media platforms against Jim Lucas, an Indiana State Representative.
Indiana Capitol Police authorities contacted detectives of the Putnamville State Police Post regarding social media posts made on Meta Platforms Inc. (formerly Facebook) and voicemails making threats and harassing statements toward Indiana State Representative Jim Lucas.
Robert L. Bennett, 55, of Terre Haute, allegedly committed these threats. He was arrested on four counts of intimidation, Level 6 felonies.
ISP detectives immediately opened a case, and as a result of the investigation, a search warrant was obtained through Vigo Superior Court Division 1. Based on preliminary findings from the search warrant, Bennett was interviewed, subsequently arrested, and incarcerated at the Vigo County Jail, where he is currently held on a $50,000 bond.
Indiana State Police detectives Don Curtis and Colton Maynor conducted the investigation, assisted by Sergeant Michael Featherling and CSI Sergeant Tim Rader of the Putnamville State Police Post.
Under the law, criminal charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
