BEDFORD – A 17-year-old male was arrested on Sunday, March 30, for public intoxication and illegal consumption of alcohol after attempting to enter the wrong residence in Bedford.
According to an affidavit for probable cause filed by Officer Joshua Turner of the Bedford Police Department, officers responded to a call in the 2000 block of J Street at approximately 4:44 a.m. regarding a male attempting to enter the caller’s home.
Upon arrival, officers found the juvenile, wearing only shorts and a blanket, near the residence’s front door. The caller identified the juvenile as the individual who had attempted to enter their home. The juvenile appeared disoriented and repeatedly stated he did not know how or why he was at that address.
Officers discovered the juvenile resided a few houses away. During questioning, the juvenile admitted to consuming alcohol in Salem the previous night. He stated he had been involved in an altercation, and his mother had picked him up and brought him home. He fell asleep in the car in front of his house due to intoxication.
His mother later told officers she was unable to get him inside and allowed him to sleep in the car. The juvenile woke up and mistakenly attempted to enter the wrong residence.
A preliminary breath test confirmed the presence of alcohol. The juvenile was issued a promise to appear in Lawrence County Juvenile Court on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at 9:00 a.m., and he was released to his mother.
