BEDFORD – The Lawrence County Commissioners received a special donation from the Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs (IDVA) during their Tuesday meeting: commemorative books honoring the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War’s end.

Lawrence County Veterans Affairs Officer Brad Bough presented the book, “Vietnam War 50th Commemoration: A Time To Honor,” which contains powerful stories of service, duty, and sacrifice.
“These books serve as a vital record of the experiences of our Vietnam veterans,” Bough stated. “We must preserve these stories and ensure future generations understand the sacrifices made.”
Bough donated two books to Bedford North Lawrence High School and Mitchell High School, ensuring that students have access to this vital historical resource. Additionally, copies were provided to the Bedford Public Library and the Mitchell Community Public Library, making the books available to the broader community.
The 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War, which marked the official conclusion of the conflict on May 7, 1975, will be observed on May 7, 2025.
“As we approach this significant anniversary, we must remember and honor the service of those who served in Vietnam,” Bough added. “These books will help to keep their memories alive.”
The commissioners expressed their gratitude for the donation and emphasized the importance of educating the community about the Vietnam War and the sacrifices of its veterans.
