High-speed chase ends in arrest of Cloverdale teen in Bloomington

BLOOMINGTON – An 18-year-old Cloverdale man was arrested Saturday evening, March 8th, following a high-speed pursuit initiated by the Indiana State Police.

The incident began when Probationary Trooper Logan McDowell, while on traffic patrol along I-69 near the 122-mile marker in Bloomington, observed a black Audi S4 traveling northbound at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour. Trooper McDowell activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver refused to comply.

The driver, later identified as Kyle J. Sims, 18, of Cloverdale, continued to flee, reaching speeds over 120 miles per hour. Sims attempted to evade the trooper by turning off his vehicle’s lights.

The pursuit continued as Sims exited I-69 at the Sample Road ramp, where he finally stopped. Trooper McDowell then initiated a traffic stop. Two passengers were also present in the Audi.

Sims was arrested without incident and transported to the Monroe County Jail. He faces the following charges: resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, a Level 6 felony; reckless driving, a Class C misdemeanor; and numerous traffic-related charges.

Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
