According to a probable cause affidavit filed by Mitchell Police Officer J. McMillen, Ritchison was brought to the detention center on an outstanding warrant. During the intake process, corrections officers searched Ritchison’s belongings and allegedly discovered a small bag containing a white powder in his cigarette carton. Officer McMillen’s affidavit states that Ritchison then reportedly said he “forgot he had that in there” and confirmed it was methamphetamine.

Officer McMillen secured the substance and field-tested it at the Mitchell Police Station. The Nartec presumptive test reportedly returned a positive result for methamphetamine.

Ritchison is now facing charges of Level 6 felony possession of methamphetamine and Level 5 felony trafficking with an inmate. He was remanded to the Lawrence County Security Center.

Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
