Logansport State Hospital patient dies after alleged battery, fellow patient arrested

LOGANSPORT– A criminal investigation by Indiana State Police has led to the arrest of a patient at the Logansport State Hospital following the death of another patient. John Loran, 56, of Clark County, IN, is now facing charges of murder, aggravated battery, and battery.

The investigation began on February 6, 2025, after a reported battery incident at the hospital on February 4th. Preliminary findings indicate that Loran allegedly battered two other patients within the facility. Travis Lunsford, 45, of London, KY, suffered critical injuries during the altercation and was transported to an area hospital. Another patient sustained minor injuries, was treated, and released.

Tragically, on February 16, 2025, Lunsford passed away from his injuries. His family has been notified.

Following Lunsford’s death, Loran was taken into custody and is currently being held at the Cass County Jail on charges of murder, aggravated battery, and battery.

All criminal defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
