Trial set for October after mother found competent to stand trail

WASHINGTON – Dejaune Anderson, the woman accused of killing her 5-year-old son and leaving his body in a suitcase in Washington County, has been declared competent to stand trial. This decision comes after a period of psychiatric treatment at Logansport State Hospital.

Dejaune Anderson

Anderson faces charges of murder, neglect of a dependent, and obstruction of justice in connection with the death of Cairo Ammar Jordan. The boy’s body was discovered in a wooded area near East Holder Road in Washington County in 2022 by a mushroom hunter. The discovery sparked a nearly two-year search, ending with Anderson’s arrest by U.S. Marshals in California in April 2024.

Previously, Anderson was declared incompetent to stand trial after identifying herself as “Princess Califia Hatun Tupac Bey II” and claiming surveillance by the U.S. Space Force and National Security Agency. Following this, she was committed to the Division of Mental Health and Addiction at Logansport State Hospital.

Washington Circuit Court Judge Larry Medlock confirmed that Anderson’s doctor certified her fitness to stand trial. She was transported from the state hospital to the Washington County jail to await the proceedings.

A jury trial has been scheduled for October 7, 2025, at 8:30 a.m. with Judge Medlock presiding.
