North Knox conquers BNL wrestlers

BICKNELL – Bedford North Lawrence finished the regular season with a 42-12 loss at North Knox during high school wrestling action on Thursday night.

The Stars won only one match on the mat. Wyatt Philpott posted a pin victory over Gabe Riker in 3:30 at 120 pounds.

“Tonight did not turn out the way we were hoping it would,” BNL coach Mike Branam said. “We were missing one of the guys, and the rest were just a little flat. But having meets a couple of days apart can be tough – especially on newer wrestlers.

“It isn’t the way we wanted to end our regular season, but as I tell them, one of the greatest attributes of a champion is a short memory. Tomorrow, we will go back into the room, learn what we need to take away from tonight, refocus on the things we need to work on, and get mentally and physically ready for next Saturday.”

BNL will compete in the IHSAA sectional at Bloomington North on Feb. 1.
