The Ugly Duck Derby is a one-of-a-kind community fundraiser where thousands of rubber ducks race for a chance to win big prizes, including a $4,000 grand prize. Each ticket purchased is assigned a duck, and when the race begins, it’s all up to chance as the ducks make their way to the finish line.

More than just a fun event, the Ugly Duck Derby directly supports the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County and the youth we serve every day. Proceeds help provide a safe place after school, caring mentors, and programs that support academic success, healthy lifestyles, and character development.

Higgins will be displayed at 12 locations. Start at the Library to grab your map, then make your way along the route to read the entire story. When you're finished, head back to the Library to get a prize!

Timeless French Lick will serve as the host community for "Voices & Votes: Democracy in America," a Smithsonian Institution traveling exhibition, on display at the Timeless French Lick Visitors Center from May 16 through June 28, 2026.

The exhibit arrives as communities across the country prepare to mark America's 250th anniversary, and Orange County is honored to be among the select Indiana communities chosen to host this nationally recognized experience.

The exhibition explores the history of American democracy — its ideals, its struggles, its triumphs, and its ongoing story — through compelling artifacts, photographs, and interactive elements. Presented as part of the Smithsonian's Museum on Main Street program, with support from Indiana Humanities, "Voices & Votes" is designed to travel to the heart of communities like ours, connecting national themes to local stories and inviting reflection on what democracy means in places where people actually live, work, and build lives together.

Opening Day: Saturday, May 16, 2026

The community is invited to celebrate the opening of "Voices & Votes" at the Timeless French Lick Visitors Center. The day's schedule is as follows:

• 10:00 a.m. — Official program with ribbon-cutting ceremony for local and state officials
• 11:00 a.m. — VIP walkthrough of the exhibit
• 12:00 p.m. — Reception with lunch/refreshments served (open to the public)
• 1:00 p.m. — Smithsonian Exhibit opens to the general public

Admission to the exhibit is free and open to all.

We're grateful to Indiana Humanities and the Smithsonian Institute for this opportunity, and we're excited to welcome everyone through the doors."

The Visitors Center, located at 8102 Indiana 56 in West Baden Springs, will serve as both the exhibit venue and a full destination welcome hub during the run of the show, offering visitor information, America 250 memorabilia, interactive gifts, and resources to help guests explore everything Orange County has to offer. Visitors are encouraged to make a full day of their experience by exploring the shops, historic sites, and attractions that make Timeless French Lick a truly unique destination.

Every Friday & Saturday night, enjoy live music, dancing, and making new friends at the Mitchell Senior Center. Singles, couples, and groups are always welcome. A different band will perform each weekend. Admission for members is $6, non-members $7. The doors open at 5 p.m., and the dance starts at 6.

Springville Community Academy will be offering free summer meals to children 18 and under beginning June 1, 2026.  On Mondays, you may pick up 7 days' worth of breakfast and a hot lunch. 

Tuesday through Thursday, hot lunches will be served.  Serving and pick up times are 11 am to 1 pm daily.  Lunches may be consumed on site or taken to go.  

*NEW RULE THIS YEAR*  CHILDREN MUST BE PRESENT TO RECEIVE MEALS OR DOCUMENTATION TO SHOW THAT YOU ARE A PARENT OR GUARDIAN OF THE CHILD RECEIVING THE MEAL.  CAREGIVERS MUST BE CARING FOR THE CHILD/CHILDREN AT THE TIME OF PICK UP. DOCUMENTATION FROM THE PARENT THAT A CAREGIVER WILL BE PICKING UP MEALS MUST BE ON FILE.
 The new rules are from the state and USDA to maintain the integrity of the program.

IU Health Paoli Hospital provides Free HIV and Hepatitis C walk-in testing every Monday at the IU Health Paoli Hospital. Testing is located in the Professional Building from 1pm-4pm.

TOPS is a weight loss support group that meets every Wednesday at Church of Christ Southland. Weigh-in starts at 9:30am. The support meeting starts at 10. Individuals are welcome to attend as a guest for their first meeting. After that TOPS membership is required. Men and Women are welcome! For more info contact Loretta 812-797-3537.

Every second and fourth Wednesday of each month at 2:00pm EST - Southern Indiana Dementia Caregiver Support Group is offered by the Alzheimer's Association Greater Indiana.  Pre-registration is preferred but not required.  Contact Diana Matthews at 812-276-4270 or via email at dmatthews4@iuhealth.org  Build a support system with people who understand.  Alzheimer's Association support groups, conducted by trained facilitators, are a safe place for care partners of those living with dementia to:

• Develop a support system
• Exchange practical information on challenges and possible solutions
• Talk through issues and ways of coping
• Share feelings, needs and concerns
• Learn about community resources

The exhibition explores the history of American democracy — its ideals, its struggles, its triumphs, and its ongoing story — through compelling artifacts, photographs, and interactive elements. Presented as part of the Smithsonian's Museum on Main Street program, with support from Indiana Humanities, "Voices & Votes" is designed to travel to the heart of communities like ours, connecting national themes to local stories and inviting reflection on what democracy means in places where people actually live, work, and build lives together.

The tournament is held in memory of the late Dr. Suresh Lohano, a beloved local physician and avid pickleball enthusiast. The foundation welcomes players ages 8 and older, ranging from beginners to seasoned veterans. Competitors can sign up for several divisions, including:

• Mixed Doubles

Winners will be recognized in each skill level category, ensuring a competitive and fun environment for all participants.

Every second and fourth Wednesday of each month at 2:00pm EST - Southern Indiana Dementia Caregiver Support Group is offered by the Alzheimer's Association Greater Indiana.  Pre-registration is preferred but not required.  Contact Diana Matthews at 812-276-4270 or via email at dmatthews4@iuhealth.org  Build a support system with people who understand.  Alzheimer's Association support groups, conducted by trained facilitators, are a safe place for care partners of those living with dementia to:

Springville Community Academy will be offering free summer meals to children 18 and under beginning June 1, 2026.  On Mondays, you may pick up 7 days' worth of breakfast and a hot lunch. 

Tuesday through Thursday, hot lunches will be served.  Serving and pick up times are 11 am to 1 pm daily.  Lunches may be consumed on site or taken to go.  

*NEW RULE THIS YEAR*  CHILDREN MUST BE PRESENT TO RECEIVE MEALS OR DOCUMENTATION TO SHOW THAT YOU ARE A PARENT OR GUARDIAN OF THE CHILD RECEIVING THE MEAL.  CAREGIVERS MUST BE CARING FOR THE CHILD/CHILDREN AT THE TIME OF PICK UP.
