Obituary: Sandra L. Bridwell

October 31, 1940 – November 1, 2022

Sandra L. Bridwell, 82, passed away on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at 7:04 a.m. at the home of her granddaughter, Brooke Carroll, in Bedford.

Sandra was born October 31, 1940, to Clyde Austin and Thelma “Madeline” (Wheeler) Shirley. She had a sister, Nancy L. Shirley, who preceded her in death on December 18, 2013.

Sandra was raised in Buddha and attended the “old Buddha school” for elementary school and then went on to graduate from Tunnelton High School in 1958. After graduating from high school, she married Roy Key and they were married for twenty years. During their marriage, Roy and Sandra had two children, Christie A. Guthrie Jenkins, and Mark E. Key. Roy and Sandra purchased the old Buddha school, remodeled it and turned it into their home, and raised their children there. Sandra so loved having friends, family and visitors come and visit and tour the “old school”

She married Michael J. Bridwell on August 14, 1982, and he preceded her in death on October 25, 2005. Sandra was a beautician at the beginning of her career and had worked for Grace Survy and then had a shop at her home and at various nursing homes from time to time. After she quit working as a beautician, she was employed at the Bedford Regional Medical Center/Edgewood Clinic as a switchboard operator, in various physician’s offices, and then for many years in the insurance office. She left the Medical Center to stay home and babysit her beloved granddaughter, Brooke. She later went to work at Kinder Kollege. She ultimately retired from North Lawrence Community Schools and has served as a secretary in the Joint Services Office. After she retired from Joint Services, she enjoyed spending her time decorating her home and working on her flowers and antiquing. She cherished her time with family and enjoyed her Florida and Gatlinburg trips with Christie and Brooke, cooking, and little “road trips” to Orange County Amish country.

Sandra is survived by her daughter, Christie, and granddaughter, Brooke Carroll, and her husband, Chad, and great-grandchildren, twins, Eric Michael Carroll and Alexis Sue Carroll, and Noah Edward Carroll.

She was preceded in death by her parents Clyde and Madeline in 1982 and 1979 respectively, her sister, Nancy L. Shirley in 2013; her husband, Michael J. Bridwell in 2005; her son, Mark E. Key in 2017, and her son-in-law, George Jenkins in 2022.

Cremation was chosen and per her wishes, there will be no visitation or service.

Cresthaven Funeral Home is in charge of her arrangements.
