The Board of Trustees is IU’s governing board, its legal owner, and final authority. Candidates for this year’s trustee election are:

  • Josh Kornberg, Bachelor of Arts 2012, Sellersburg, Indiana.
  • Sanford S. Kunkel, Bachelor of Arts 1978, Doctor of Medicine 1982, Carmel, Indiana.
  • Vivian Winston, Bachelor of Science 1978, Master of Business Administration 1990, Bloomington, Indiana.

The elected trustee will take the seat of MaryEllen Bishop, who has decided not to run for re-election. Bishop has served as an elected trustee for more than a decade.

“It’s been an honor to serve my alma mater and help guide IU’s future as a trustee,” Bishop said. “I served during a period of restoration, repurposing and modernization of academic facilities and programs on all of our campuses in support of the mission of the university. We restructured, merged or created 10 new schools. Thank you for allowing me this time of service.”

In accordance with state law, the dean of University Libraries manages the trustee election with assistance from the IU Alumni Association. IU alumni elect three of the nine members of the IU Board of Trustees, with each serving a three-year term. Indiana’s governor appoints the remaining six trustees, including one student trustee.
