Obituary: William D. May

September 21, 1927 – April 1, 2022

William D. May, 94, of Bedford, died at 3:40 pm on Friday, April 1, 2022, at IU Health Bedford Hospital.

Born September 21, 1927, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Curtis and Emma (Wilson) May. He married Linetta Terrell in 1952 and she preceded him in death on July 12, 1996. He was a self-employed roofer and gun shop owner. William was a US Army veteran, serving during the Korean War from 1951until 1952. He was a member of the Springville Grace Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the VFW, FOP, and DAV.

Survivors include one son, Nathan May, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers, Harry and Keith May; and two sisters, Mary Jo Southern, and Wanda Rush.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6 in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Bob Phillips. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens with military rites accorded by Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service on Wednesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
