Lane closures and traffic changes planned for I-65 construction zone in Bartholomew County

BARTHOLOMEW CO. — Construction is expected to pick up over the next few weeks in the existing I-65 construction zone in Bartholomew County. Work began last year on the $65 million added travel lanes project that also includes asphalt resurfacing on I-65 between Columbus and Taylorsville, as well as a deck overlay on the I-65 bridge over S.R. 46.

Upcoming lane closures and traffic shifts are planned as follows, weather permitting:

Monday, March 21 to Friday, March 25 (9 p.m. to 6 a.m.): Nightly lane closures on I-65 NB between MM 64 and MM 68 to move and place temporary concrete barrier wall

Monday, March 28 (9 p.m. to 6 a.m.): Nightly lane closures on I-65 SB between MM 64 and MM 68 to shift traffic to the northbound side configuration in place through July 2022

Tuesday, March 29 to Friday, April 1 (9 p.m. to 6 a.m.): Nightly lane closures on I-65 NB and SB between MM 68 and MM 76 to begin preliminary resurface work (patching layout and set-up)

Starting Monday, April 4 (9 p.m. to 6 a.m.): Alternating nightly lane closures on I-65 NB and SB between MM 68 and MM 76 for patching, milling, and paving, resurface work continues through July 2022

In addition to lane closures and traffic shifts, drivers should expect an around-the-clock reduced speed limit of 55 mph, with 45 mph flashing signs when workers are present.

The contract was awarded to Force Construction in October 2020. The added travel lanes and resurface portions of the project are expected to be completed this fall, with additional work expected through summer 2023. INDOT reminds drivers to use extra caution, avoid distractions, and consider worker safety when traveling through active construction zones. All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.
