Lawrence County Cancer Patient Services Christmas gifts for children event ready for 2021

LAWRENCE COUNTY – The Lawrence County Cancer Patient Services (LCCPS) Christmas gifts for children of cancer patients event aims to help those affected by cancer in Lawrence County.

Cancer is an unfortunate truth in the world and affects individuals in different circumstances and areas at a moment’s notice. Some families in Lawrence County are dealing with a loved one who is fighting and raising a family or has a child who is being challenged by cancer.

LCCPS is a non-profit that works to provide many different services and aid to those residing in Lawrence County, who are dealing with a parent, or even a child, fighting for their life. One of the many things they offer is Christmas gifts for the children.

With the number of children and families in need of Christmas aid this year, almost doubling from 2020, LCCPS is serving over 35 children this year, so that they can celebrate the holiday.

“There are 36 to 38 children so far that are in need of our help, in need of the communities help to have a moment to step away and forget what they are going through and celebrate Christmas,” said LCCPS Officer Janet Huber. “The support has been wonderfully overwhelming this year, to help get these children items from their wish list but there is still more to be done.”

Each child that will be assisted within this year’s event will have a $100 limit for presents of any variety to check off items on their wish list, and with $3,800 donated so far, these lists will be taken care of.

“All of the money raised for this event stays with this event. We had close to $1,000 from last year that we saved to use again this year,” said Huber. “To have the ability to offer this to those who truly need it is the best part of Christmas. Seeing the shining and smiling faces from the children and the families is what Christmas is truly about.”
