BEDFORD – Hoosier Uplands Head Start , Early Head Start, and Early Head Start Prenatal Group are currently taking applications for both their preschool and home visiting programs! Both programs offer comprehensive services for the entire family.
Hoosier Uplands has been providing Head Start services since the program’s inception in 1965. Head Start is a family centered child development program designed to provide a safe, healthy environment for those who attend. Head Start provides children with activities that help them grow mentally, socially, emotionally and physically.
The Head Start staff recognize that parents are the first and most important teachers of their children. Head Start staff welcome parental involvement in Head Start activities and will work with parents as partners in their child’s educational activities.
In Lawrence County, children living in the North Lawrence Community School District attend Head Start classes in Bedford at 710 6th Street. Children living in the Mitchell Community School District attend classes at 1240 Orchard Street in Mitchell. In Martin County the Head Start Center is located at 401 S. Oak Street in Loogootee. Orange County Head Start classes meet in the agency’s facility at 414 W. Longest Street in Paoli. Washington County Head Start classes are held at the Head Start Center in Salem at 902 South Aspen Drive.
Early Head Start was established by Congress with the reauthorization of the Head Start Act in 1994 to help ensure that all infants and toddlers get a good and healthy start in life. Hoosier Uplands began providing Early Head Start services in December 1999. Hoosier Uplands proudly offer the Early Head Start program to qualifying families in Lawrence, Orange, Martin, and Washington counties.
Early Head Start offers child development services to pregnant mothers and families with infants and young children, birth to age three.
