(BLOOMINGTON) – Bloomington Police and Bloomington Fire Department are investigating a death of a female in a apartment fire.
The Bloomington Fire Department was dispatched to an apartment fire in the 500 block of Basswood Drive in Limestone Crossing Apartments complex Thursday night around 9:45 p.m.
When firefighters arrived they found light smoke in a second-floor apartment. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire.
Several investigators arrived at the scene Thursday night to begin their investigation into the cause of the fire. During the investigation a female body was discovered inside the apartment.
The name of the female has not been released.
Monroe County Coroner’s office arrived while WBIW was at the scene to transport the body.
An autopsy is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. today.
In 2020, 74 Hoosiers have lost there lives due to a house fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The Bloomington Police Department, Bloomington Fire Department, IU Health Ambulance Service, Monroe County Coroners’ office, and Monroe County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene.
