Saddle Club Plans Placed On Hold Due To Airport Renovations

(BEDFORD) – The request to be able to use the county property for the Saddle Club has been placed on hold.

Jim Deckard appeared before the Lawrence County Commissioners meeting last month requesting permission to use the property.

A second runway is planned at Virgil Grissom Airport in Bedford.

The commissioners asked Deckard to research the bylaws and find out who was in charge of the group.

This morning during the Commissioners meeting, Deckard brought the group’s bylaws and told them the group has not been active since 1997 and since dissolved.

Since the original request, the Commissioners have learned that the Virgil Grissom Airport is undergoing a major runway project and any properties located near the airport are under the FAA’s preview.

The FAA will make recommendations to the county and airport which may seek to keep the property as a buffer zone for the runway project.

Therefore, the commissioners advised Deckard that it may be some time before any other use of the county property may be approved or the property may use eminent domain by the FAA and be used by the airport.
