Lawrence County Experiencing Surge in COVID-19 Cases

(BEDFORD) – Lawrence County Health Nurse Mary Kinser reported Lawrence County is currently experiencing a significant surge in confirmed COVID-19 cases. 

“This increase in positive COVID-19 cases encompasses all age groups,” said Kinser. “We are seeing increased numbers of emergency room visits, as well as hospital admissions.”

Lawrence County has a positivity rate of 7.3 percent. 

“We continue to be under a mask mandate for the entire state of Indiana. This mandate was issued by Governor Eric Holcomb,” she added. “Wear a mask, social distance at least 6 feet from others, wash hands frequently, and use alcohol gel if unable to wash hands and frequently clean high touch areas. 

The Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) reported 1,488 new positive coronavirus cases Thursday, bringing the state’s total to 129,677.

SDH also announced 16 additional confirmed deaths from coronavirus, bringing Indiana’s total to 3,515. The new deaths were reported to ISDH from Oct. 4 – Oct. 7.

The latest ISDH dashboard data indicates a 7-day all-test positivity rate of 5.1%, with a cumulative rate of 5.7% positive.

According to the data, 26,015 new tests were administered statewide, with the total number of tests at 2,246,099.

ISDH says 32.5% of ICU beds and 79.4% of ventilators are available across the state.
