Lawerence County Council Begins Budget Hearings

(BEDFORD) – The Lawrence County Council began hearing budget details Tuesday night.

The largest savings was out of the aviation budget which had a decrease of $20,620.

The Lawrence County Health Department had a $13,467.00 increase in its budget. Lawrence County Health Department officials asked the council to start looking again into increasing the salaries for their employees.

The Health Department anticipates three employees will retire in the next three years and wants to be able to recruit employees that are qualified for those positions, but the current salary schedule will make that difficult.

Health department officials note that the department is fully funded for 2021.

Revenues for the health department include:

  • Vital Records – $20,108
  • Clinic – $5,718.45
  • Sanitation – $29,565
  • Misc. Fees – $95.91

The following budget requests for 2021 include:

  • Veterans – $51,216
  • Data Processing – $174,900
  • Recorder – $119,048
  • Surveyor – $96,688
  • Lawrence County Extension – $191,399
  • Aviation – $122,150
  • Lawrence County Health Department – $384,382
  • Lawrence County Clerk – $313,339

  • Treasurer – $178,344

The lease for the Courthouse Plaza will be completed in 2023.

The other meetings for budget hearings will be held on August 25th and September 8th.

The final budget hearing will be held on Tuesday September 15th and final adoption of the budget on September 22nd. 

The request for this year’s budget from county offices totals around $14.8 million.
