(BLOOMINGTON) – A man and his dog were rescued from floodwaters on West Dillman Road near the bridge early this morning.
At approximately 3:30 a.m. the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, Monroe Fire Protection District, and IU Health Ambulance Service responded to the incident after a man called 911 and stated he was trapped in floodwaters.
At one point the water was up to his knees.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department and fire department quickly arrived on the scene. Firefighters rigged up a harness and safety rope and were able to get to the car and rescue both the man and his dog.
Several roads were flooded last night and early this morning throughout Monroe County requiring the Highway Department to post high water signs.
Floodwaters have impacted roadways throughout the state. A search is currently underway after two vehicles that were swept away from a Franklin County roadway.
Motorists are reminded not to drive in floodwaters and to “Turn Around and Do Not Drown.”
