Obituary: William V. “Bill” Morris

September 23, 1929 – February, 17, 2020

William V. (Bill) Morris 90, of Bedford, passed away on February 17, 2020, after a short illness at Hospice House of Bloomington, Indiana.

Bill was born in Indianapolis to Lloyd A. and Mary Jane (Curren) Morris on September 23, 1929.  He graduated from Shawswick High School with the Class of 1949 of which he was still Class President.  Bill attended Indiana University. He married Melphia Ellen Baker on June 30, 1950, in Bedford, Indiana.   He worked for Bedford Foundry and Machine Corporation, Reliance Electric, Indiana Steel and Engineering-Bedford Cranes, retiring from Indiana Limestone.  

He received many awards from numerous organizations for over 70 years of volunteerism.   He was a Member of the Bedford First Free Methodist Church since 1964, Charter Member of The Bedford Breakfast Optimist Club, and a member of the Bedford Lions Club. 

Bill is preceded in death by his wife; Melphia, brothers; James Morris and Lloyd F. Morris,  sisters; Mary Louise Egbert and Helen Baker, a grandson; Jeremy Morris and granddaughter; Mandy Hardwick.  

Bill is survived by two sons; Phil (Kim) Morris and Dennis (Toni) Morris; a daughter, Barb Morris; grandchildren; Jay and Rachel Morris and their children A.J., Peyton, Gracie, Amaya and her daughter, Stella; Chris and Bethany Morris Bell and their children Michael, Cierra, and Hannah; Jordan and Mindy Morris and their children Bennett, Beau and Knight;  Jessie Myers Allison and her son, Jai Paul; Ryan and Dr. Brandy Deckard and their son, William; Tyler and Stacie Deckard and their children Olivia and Maxen and Evan and Cassidy Deckard.

Pallbearers will be Dale Baker, Darrell Baker, Byron Morris, Jack Butterfield, Stan Chastain, and Jay Morris.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Bethany Bell, Kelly Morris-Adair and Sue Comello.

In Lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions in Bill’s memory to Riley Children’s Hospital or Bedford Lions Club Youth Appreciation Program. 

Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2020, and from 11 a.m. until the service hour Friday, at Bedford First Free Methodist Church, 630 R Street, in Bedford.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, February 21, 2020, at Bedford First Free Methodist Church with Pastors Jordan Morris, Scott Salm, Mike Courtney, and Superintendent John Lane officiating. Burial will follow at Cresthaven Memory Gardens.

Arrangements are under the direction of Thorne-George Family Funeral Home.
