Nicolas, NH Shoot Down BNL

(RAMSEY) – North Harrison’s Maddie Nicolas scored four goals as the Cougars conquered Bedford North Lawrence 5-2 in the regular-season finale during girls high school soccer action on Tuesday afternoon.

Nicolas scored the first two goals of each half, powering the Cougars to a 3-1 lead at intermission and then extending North Harrison’s advantage in the second.

“She was the best player we have faced all year and literally did it all for them,” BNL coach D.J. West said. “We tried our best to mark her with our best. Adrian (Collins) did a great job against her when she had the ball at her feet. But when we lost track of her she made us pay.”

Nicolas struck first at 34:34 of the first half, then tallied again just 35 seconds later. Jennifer Ramirez got the Stars on the board at 18:31, but Sarah Waynescott answered for the Cougars at 7:34.

Nicolas cracked through at 27:04 and 8:10 of the second half.

Claire Nordhoff scored off a Ramirez assist for BNL’s final goal with 1:30 remaining.

“Although the result was not in our favor, it was one of our better played matches of the season,” West said. “We generated a lot more good scoring chances. A couple hit the post, a couple just went over the bar, and a couple where we just didn’t get on the end of a cross.

“I was extremely proud of the girls for their effort, playing back-to-back nights. Hopefully we can carry this momentum into the sectional.”

The Stars (3-10) will face Seymour in the first round of the Class 3A sectional at Seymour on Oct. 8 at 5 p.m.
