(BEDFORD) – Take a drive down John Williams Boulevard and it would be hard to miss the construction at Indiana Fabric Solutions, Inc.
Crews are hard at work as they begin to roof the nearly 25,000 sq. ft. of additional space that will soon become home to new equipment, materials and service capabilities for the industrial sewing company.
Indiana Fabric Solutions, Inc. is a certified Women-owned business, currently producing high-quality, reusable sewn fabric packaging products, completely customized to meet customer needs.
Historically, those customers have been in the automotive industry as they work closely with sister company Innovative Fabricators, Inc. to supply large volumes of returnable packaging.
Within this expansion, Indiana Fabric Solutions will be incorporating three machines. Two will diversify their product and service offerings to include thermoformed plastics and laser fabricated metal sheet components. The third machine, a waterjet, is being relocated to reduce lead time and transportation costs.
“We’re excited to expand and grow the company because we believe it will bring more opportunities to our community,” says Angie McCullough, owner of Indiana Fabric Solutions. “One of those opportunities is with the Department of Defense. We have completed the initial steps to participate within this important industry and see great growth potential for our company while providing services and support to the warfighter.”
An increase in the workforce is also expected to be a result of the project as it wraps up later this year. Machine operators and material handlers are examples of those new positions that will need to be filled as the orders start to pile in.
While workforce development, specifically worker education and skilled
training remain hot topics for employers across the state, McCullough says, “We have a great workforce here in Bedford, and we’re fortunate to have a strong pool of candidates from which to choose.”
McCullough mentioned, “It’s taken a village to get this done. We’re thankful for community partners such as the Lawrence County Economic Growth Council, BUEA, and financial institutions that have helped along the way.” The Lawrence County Economic Growth Council spoke with owners Angie and Patty McCullough about their expansion plans and shared options available to help with growth.
Through the Bedford Urban Enterprise Association (BUEA), Indiana Fabric Solutions is able to use cost deductions based on their location in the Urban Enterprise Zone. They also plan to work with local utility companies, such as Duke Energy, to take advantage of energy efficiency programs.
The new building and product lines are expected to be fully operational at the start of 2020.
