(MUNCIE) — Governor Eric Holcomb has appointed two new members to the Ball State University Board of Trustees: alumnus Henry O. Hall and student Rebeca Mena. Trustee Hall’s term extends through December 31, 2022, and Trustee Mena will serve a two-year term through 2021.
“I look forward to working with Trustees Hall and Mena and welcome their insights,” said Rick Hall, chair of the Board of Trustees. “Since his graduation, Trustee Hall has become a successful business professional and a loyal alumnus. As an American raised in Venezuela, Trustee Mena brings a global perspective to the Board. Ball State University will benefit greatly from their talents, experiences, and passion.”
Trustee Henry Hall, a Fort Wayne resident, earned his bachelor’s degree in finance and accounting. Alumni in 1989 and the early 1990s might remember him as a player on the football team, including a stint as co-captain. His professional background includes finance, accounting, capital procurement, wholesale and retail distribution, and business growth strategies and processes. Since 2012, he has been president of Skytech Products Group, a leading manufacturer of control systems for the hearth and HVAC industries.
In addition to his business success, Trustee Hall has served his neighbors, including Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana and the Fort Wayne Urban League, and he has given back to Ball State, with both his time and his treasure. In the Miller College of Business, he has served on the Executive Advisory Board, including its vice chair, and the college’s Strategic Planning Committee. He is a member of the Northeast Indiana Alumni Chapter and Black Alumni Constituent Society, and he has spoken to students about the transition from college to career. He is a member of the Cardinal Varsity Club and an avid fan of Ball State football.
Trustee Mena is a rising junior studying chemistry, Spanish, and pre-dental preparation in the College of Sciences and Humanities. She is a Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP) research scholar and peer mentor and member of the Pre-Health Professions Club. She has helped fellow students as a chemistry teaching assistant and a Supplemental Instruction leader for a chemistry class. She has worked part-time for Department of Chemistry and as a medical interpreter at IU Health.
The University’s nine trustees are appointed by the governor and responsible for the fiduciary oversight of Ball State. The Board’s primary duties are to approve the strategic direction of the University, confer degrees, and oversee fiscal matters such as the University budget and tuition and fee policies.
