Police arrested 29-year-old Michel Bird on charges of domestic battery in the presence of a child under the age of 16, domestic battery, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest.
According to Chief Deputy Aaron Shoults, officers responded at 10:48 p.m. after a woman called the police. Officers met the female victim at the front door.
Bird had locked himself in a bedroom in the residence.
“Officers spoke to him through the locked door and eventually he exited the bedroom,” Chief Shoults added. “It was determined that Bird had battered the victim by getting her in a “bearhug” and then pinning her to a bed while on top of her and refusing to get off of her. During this “bearhug” the victim suffered redness to her chest and arms.:”
Bird was placed under arrest and that is when he began resisting and had to be physically brought under control and handcuffed.
“Once loaded into a patrol car Bird kicked the cage and side door window glass and had to restrained by officers once again,” Chief Shoults added.
Bird was then transported to the Lawrence County Jail.
