(BEDFORD) – Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating an accident after the driver suffered a possible seizure causing his death.
The accident happened at 1:24 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection Gunsmith School and Leatherwood roads.
According to a police report, 72-year-old Rickie Ryan, who is a retired Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputy, ran a stop sign at the intersection, veered off the road and struck a guard rail.
His wife Marsha, who was a passenger in the vehicle, told police it appeared her husband had suffered a seizure while driving, causing the crash.
Shawswick Volunteer Fire Department and IU Health ambulance assisted on the scene.
