The following obituaries were received for Thursday –


Blanche Maxwell – West Lafayette
Blanche Maxwell, 97, of West Lafayette, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2012 at her home.
Born June 3, 1914 in Norman, she was the daughter of Ulysses Grant and Amanda (Cummings) Norman. She married Carl Maxwell and he preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and a member of the Presbyterian Church in West Lafayette.
Survivors include nieces and nephews, Richard Todd, Wilma Spencer, Fred Todd and Dorothy Bauer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four sisters, Julia Schultz, Katie Norman, Florence Todd and Naomi Norman; one brother Ernest “Glen” Norman.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. today in Green Hill Cemetery with Pastor Charlie Scott officiating. Burial will follow. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. today at Day & Carter Mortuary.

George K. Gates – Norman

George K. Gates, 91, of Norman, passed away Monday, February, 20, 2012 at 9:22 p.m. at IU Health Bedford Hospital.
Born on February 11, 1921 in Anderson, he was the son of James Calvin and Ada (Smith) Gates. He married Alice Gillespie on February 28, 1942 and she preceded him in death on April 13, 2007.
He was a Wood Pattern Maker& Supervisor at GM Powertrain for 36 years, retiring in 1977. He was a member of the Clearsprings Baptist Church. He was a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran.
Survivors include a son, David Lee and wife Mona Gates, of Bedford, one grandson, David Craig and wife Wendy Gates, of Bloomington, two granddaughters, Amber Hillenburg, of Corydon; Lori and husband Rex Ketcherside, of Bedford; four great grandsons, Michael Gates, of Mitchell, Trey and Linda Lindeau, of Bedford, Lane Tompkins, of Bloomington; three great granddaughters, Charlene Hillenburg, of Corydon, Tylynn Gates, of French Lick and Kaylee Tompkins, of Bloomington, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, Diana Gates; son George Kenneth Gates Jr., two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be on Monday, February 27, 2012 at 10 a.m. at the Clearsprings Baptist Church in Clearsprings, with Pastor David Sawyer officiating. Burial will follow in Anderson Memorial Park in Anderson on Monday at 2:30 p.m.
Friends may call on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home.
