Erwin “Lee” Root – Bedford
Erwin “Lee” Root, 87, passed away at 1:20 a.m. Saturday, October 8, 2011, at Garden Villa in Bedford, Ind.
Born February 12, 1924, in Mitchell, he was the son of Ernest Lee and Helen Gladys
(Erwin) Root. He married Rosabel Baker September 13, 1946, and she preceded him in
death on February 27, 2000. His second marriage was to Lois (Melvin) Slaughter Kendall
on December 3, 2005.
He was an electrical engineer, graduated from Tri-State College, and retired from
Indiana University. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mitchell and the Experimental Aviation Association, Bloomington Chapter. In the 1950’s he was a photographer and engraver for the Daily Herald-Telephone.
He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1942. Lee was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion.
Surviving include his wife, Lois Root, of Orleans; daughter, Virginia Fay Boshears and husband, Ron, of Avon; son, Nathan Erwin Root and wife, Carol, of Kokomo; stepchildren, Brent Slaughter and wife, Karen, of Orleans; Adrian Slaughter and wife, Angie, of Mitchell, Lana Hudelson and husband, Danny, of Orleans; 4 grandchildren, Jacki (Jessie) Myers, Jennifer (Greg) Parrish, Heather (Matt) Smallee, Zac (Terri) Root
7 great grandchildren, Taylor, Hayley, Hunter, Holden, Ashlyn, Lucy, Carly
7 step grandchildren, Brett (Barbie) Hudelson, Darren Hudelson,Trent Slaughter,Kara Jean Slaughter, Jason (Leslie) Slaughter, Jodie (Kyle) Endris, Lindsey (Nick) Doub
9 step great grandchildren; sister, Darlene Dalton, of Mitchell; sister in law, Elizabeth Root, of Mitchell.
Preceded him in death were his parents; first wife, Rosabel; son, Aaron Lee Root; brother, James Kenneth Root; and half brother, William E. Williams.
Graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 11, at Mitchell Cemetery
with Bro. Marc Fields officiating. Military honors will be accorded by American
Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

Muriel F. Anderson – Springville
Muriel F. Anderson , 86, of Springville, Indiana, died at 2:25 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, 2011, at her home.
Born Nov. 18, 1924, in Chicago. Ill. She was the daughter of Homer E. Newell and Margaret (Johnson) Newell. She married William H. “Bill” Anderson August 1, 1945 andhe preceded her in death on Feb. 26, 1999.
She attended the Free Methodist Church in Bedford. She served her precious Lord in Prison ministry for 36 years and held a Bible study at the Lawrence County Jail for more than 28 years.
Surviving are two sons, Roger Ware and wife Connie, of Elgin Ill.; Barry K. Ware of California; two daughters, Pamela Mosqueda, of Bedford, Ind., and Terry Anderson-Byers and her husband Joe Byers, of Springville, Ind.; 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at Springville Cemetery West, In Springville, Ind., with Brother Bob Phillips officiating.
Friends and family may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home, in Bedford.
Memorial contributions to the White River Humane Society can be made in Muriel’s memory.
