Altrusa Club members rack up volunteer hours

BEDFORD – The Bedford Altrusa Club met on Monday, May 8th, at The Mixing Bowl.

There were 24 members in attendance.

During the meeting, Loretta Bailey read thank you’s from the family of Peggy Buck and the NLCS scholarship foundation.

Becky Bailey reported on the Mt Pleasant Church Matthew 11:28 beds for the area children project. 

Altrusa cookbooks were distributed to members and designated for Becky’s Place, the Hauck House, and Cambridge Square residents.

Sara Kern and Mary Gabbard recently attended the District Six Conference in Muncie and shared their experience with the group. 

Pat Adams was welcomed back after her illness and the passing of her husband, George. 

Fannie Lee reported on the group assisting during the WBIW Senior Fair and how everyone’s help was very much appreciated.

Members will be placing flags on veterans’ graves again this year.

Jenny Edwards was commended for serving more than 1000 volunteer hours during the 2022-23 fiscal year, and Nina Doan volunteer more than 1800 hours.

A certificate was on display designating Peggy Buck with Emeritus status.

Members continue to volunteer at the Lawrence County Museum on Tuesdays.

New members Karen Weaver and Chelsea Pellman were initiated by Sara Kern.

Norma Hoffman thanked past officers for their service and swore in new officers, Bill Barnes, Kathleen Row, Mary Barnes, and Sara Kern.
