BLOOMINGTON — Seventeen Indiana University graduate programs and specialty areas are ranked among the nation’s top 10, with 37 ranked in the top 25, according to the 2023-24 U.S. News and World Report Best Graduate School rankings released today. “These national rankings recognize IU’s academic excellence in a broad range of key disciplines and programs across our campuses in Bloomington and Indianapolis,” IU President Pamela Whitten said. “From public affairs to business, education, and more, faculty across IU has developed nationally recognized degree programs, demonstrated extensive thought leadership, and excelled as researchers pursuing discovery and innovation. They are uniquely preparing our students for success while creating impact across Indiana and beyond.”

In addition to being tied as the nation’s overall No. 1 graduate school program in public affairs, the O’Neill School’s Bloomington campus received No. 1 rankings in the specialty areas of environmental policy and management, nonprofit management, public finance and budgeting, and public management and leadership. Between the O’Neill School’s two locations — Bloomington and Indianapolis — it holds a total of 10 program or specialty rankings in the top 10, including No. 2 in nonprofit management at O’Neill Indianapolis.

With nearly 400 graduate and professional degree programs and certificates available between the university’s Bloomington and Indianapolis campuses, other highly ranked programs and specialty areas include business, education, analytical chemistry (seventh), and computer science programming language (23rd).
The Kelley School of Business part-time MBA program ranks 15th overall and the full-time MBA program ranks 22nd overall and seventh among public universities, with three specialty areas in the top 10: accounting, entrepreneurship, and information systems. Eight other specialties are within the top 25.
The IU School of Education in Bloomington also scored in the top 25 in seven of nine specialty areas ranked by U.S. News, with three maintaining a top 10 ranking: elementary education, higher education administration and student counseling/personnel services. The school holds the 36th spot overall.
In total, nearly 50 Indiana University programs and specialty areas placed in the top 50 of this year’s U.S. News Best Graduate School rankings. The rankings are based on statistical and reputational data about graduate programs at U.S. colleges and universities and are available on U.S. News and World Report’s website. Rankings for law and medical schools will be released at a later date, according to U.S. News and World Report.
