Altrusa International of Bedford makes donations to local organizations

BEDFORD – The Altrusa International of Bedford voted to donate $250 to the Riley Hospital Dance Marathon.

The event will be held on April 28th from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Bedford North Lawrence High School.

The group also reported that 25 magazines were donated to each of Bedford’s nursing homes.

Becky Bailey, Sammie Kay Polley, and Susie Turner have compiled and proofed recipes for a cookbook the group will distribute to families at Becky’s Place.

Sara Kern made 15 half-gallon bottles of laundry detergent to donate to L.I.F.E. Food Pantry.

Mary Barnes passed around the sign-up sheet for volunteers at the Lawrence County Museum.

The group is looking for volunteers to help at the WBIW senior fair that will be on April 19 and to help place flags on veterans’ graves in May. Contact Fannie at fandoralee@yahoo.com if you are interested in volunteering.

Altursa will write grants to assist IDES and HelpingHisHands. These organizations are directly involved with cleaning up and rebuilding from the destruction caused by recent tornados.

New members Karen Weaver and Chelsea Noble-Pellman were approved and will be initiated at the May 15th meeting. Also, new officers will be installed at that time.
