BEDFORD – Dale E. Johnson, 96, of Bedford, passed away at 7:25 am on Friday, March 17, 2023, at IU Health Bedford Hospital.
Born February 18, 1927, he was the son of Elmer H. and Maud (Giles) Johnson. Dale married Beverly A. Browning on June 8, 1948, and she survives. He retired from NWSC Crane. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bedford and the American Legion. Dale was a United States Army Airforce veteran, serving with the Jungle 13 squadron. He was an avid golfer and loved fishing, hunting, basketball and watching I.U. Basketball. Dale played basketball for Bedford High School from 1942-1945.
Survivors include his wife of seventy- five years, Beverly Johnson; one daughter, Dale Mikels and her husband Ed of Bedford; two grandchildren, Cory (Tessa) Mikels and Brady (Crystal) Mikels all of Bedford; seven great grandchildren, Jayce, Sadie, Mason, Kyler, Lexie, Kendal and Brayden; four great-great-grandchildren, Lux, Scottlyn, Sawyer and Sloan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Charles Johnson, and a sister, Mary Beth Bartlett.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, March 21st in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Jason Filler officiating. A burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00am until the time of service on Tuesday, March 21 st at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
Military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Gillen Post #33.
