Jury finds Daleville man guilty of beating his grandfather to death

DELAWARE CO. – A Daleville man was found guilty Friday of killing his grandfather.

A jury deliberated for more than five hours before finding Trent Kreegar guilty. The verdict was read on what would have been 67-year-old Robert Earl Huffman Jr.’s 69th birthday.

Trent Kreegar

Police arrested Kreegar on Sept. 5, 2021. Huffman died after the two got into a fight outside Huffman’s Daleville home.

Kreegar, 28, struck Huffman multiple times, kicked him in the ribs, and stomped on his head. Kreegar then hit his grandfather in the head with a cement cinder block and then picked up a steel wheelbarrow and threw it on top of him breaking more than two dozen ribs.

After the fight, Kreegar took a shower and waited several hours before calling 911.

The fight was said to be about Kreegar’s excessive drinking.

Kreegar will be sentenced on March 24.
