Orleans man arrested on strangulation and battery charges

MITCHELL – An Orleans man faces charges of strangulation and domestic battery after an incident on Friday.

Timothy Pemberton

Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputies detained 41-year-old Timothy Pemberton after responding to a domestic altercation in the 4000 block of Stonington Road.

A male caller reported a woman and Pemberton were in an altercation and Pemberton was intoxicated. The male caller said he was alerted to the dispute after the woman involved had called him.  The male caller said he and the woman were sitting in his truck in the driveway.

Sgt. Pope, Deputy Duncan, and Deputy Pruett responded to the home.  The woman told police that Pemberton had busted her lip and choked her. Police say the woman did have a split lip and marks on her neck.

Pemberton told police he picked the woman up at a home on South 5th Street in Mitchell and proceeded to the VFW, where he met with his brother. Pemberton told police the woman stayed in the vehicle but was angered because he stayed in the VFW too long.

They then left the VFW and went to the home on Stonington Road.

He denied anything physical happened.

The woman told police Pemberton had picked her up and they went to the VFW to meet Pemberton’s brother. After leaving the VFW they went to the home on Stonington Road where they began to argue.

The argument continued and at some point, she dropped the remote and broke it. This angered Pemberton and he picked her up by the hair. The woman then urinated on herself and went to the bathroom to clean herself up. Pemberton followed her. He knocked her down by the toilet and began choking her. She tried to scream, was able to push him off, and went to get her belongings from the living room.  He followed her and knocked her down, choked her again, and called her names. When he let go, the woman ran outside and called the other male for assistance.

The woman signed a battery affidavit and Pemberton was detained.
