HELTONVILLE – Two men were arrested on Monday after Lawrence County Central Dispatch was alerted to a fight between two men at Transitions in Heltonville.

After arriving at the scene, Deputy Calvin Callahan was informed by employees that 26-year-old Jerome Jones, of Mitchell, was in the bathroom and three other males entered a short time later.

One of the three males was 28-year-old Tyreke Young, of Indianapolis. Young and Jones then got into a physical altercation.

The employees told police they were under the impression Jones was jumped by Young.

In a video, you can see part of the physical altercation but a wall was blocking the view of the entire fight.

In the video, the officer could see Young punching Jones. The video does not show Jones punching Young.

Police then spoke to Jones, who said he was in the bathroom when he was attacked by Young. Jones said he was punched in the head and face multiple times. Jones also had dried blood on his left hand and small cuts under his right eye and on the right side of his forehead.

Young told the officer there was a verbal argument between him and Jones and that turned physical. He said he didn’t know who threw the first punch.

Young said he was punched in the face and then elbowed in the upper chest near his neck. Young suffered a small cut on his left hand.

Both Jones and Young were detained on charges of battery causing bodily injury.

Police said Jones complained of pain and made suicidal comments to them.

He was taken to IU Health Hospital, where he was medically cleared and transported to the Lawrence County Jail, where the staff was advised of the suicidal comments he made previously.
