Woman arrested after Bedford police find her intoxicated outside of an abandoned home

BEDFORD – A Bloomington woman was arrested on drug charges after Bedford Police Sgt. Faheem Bade received a report on Friday, Feb. 3 that a woman was attempting to get into an abandoned house at 13th and U streets.

The caller reported that the woman appeared intoxicated.

When Bade arrived at the home he said he found 55-year-old Tonya Freeman attempting to open the front door of the home in the 2000 block of 13th Street.

Freeman told the officer she was meeting a friend at the home.

Bade said Freeman had slurred speech, poor balance, and was unable to stand still.

The officer asked Freeman for her driver’s license, at which point she began digging in her purse to find it. He said he then witnesses her drop the bag, leading items including a jar containing marijuana to spill out.

The officer then detained Freeman, who later told him a friend had invited her over for a party.

When asked why she showed up at this house and she shrugged her shoulders. When asked if she suffered from a medical condition she told the officer she was bipolar.

The officer then searched her purse and found a metallic cigarette case that contained a cigarette and a cut straw with meth residue.

Police said they asked Freeman had come from, to which they said she responded “Narnia.”

Officers said they found no forced entry to the home.

Freeman is now facing charges of public intoxication, possession of meth and marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
