

BEDFORD – It was announced that Bedford Middle School will host the Mark Starr Memorial Cutter Classic on Saturday, Jan. 28, a basketball tournament for eighth-grade boys and girls teams.
The tournament is named in honor of Mark Starr, a former BMS teacher and basketball coach, who passed away on Sept. 19, 2021.
Starr worked as an educator for North Lawrence Community Schools for 19 years, teaching industrial technologies and social studies at BMS and in the Bedford North Lawrence High School LEAP program. Starr also coached in the district for many years, coaching eighth-grade girls basketball at BMS, as well as freshman girls basketball at BNL.
All proceeds from the event will be donated to the scholarship awarded in Starr’s memory.
Participating in the event are the boys teams from Bedford Middle School, Mitchell Junior High School, West Washington Junior High School, and Eastern Greene Middle School, and the girls teams from Bedford Middle School, Mitchell Junior High School, West Washington Junior High School, and Springs Valley Junior High School.
