Police find meth syringes during a traffic stop, Paoli woman arrested

MITCHELL – A Paoli woman was arrested Friday on drug charges when a Mitchell Police officer stopped her vehicle on State Road 37 after noticing the vehicle’s license plate light was out.

The driver of the vehicle gave the officer consent to search the vehicle. During that search, officers found a black leather bag in the backseat inside was a syringe that tested positive for meth and a metal spoon in the glovebox that tested positive for meth.

Sophia Roberts

Police say 38-year-old Sophia Roberts was a passenger in that vehicle. The bag belonged to Roberts. Initially, Roberts refused to speak to the officer and she was detained and placed in the police car. However, she asked the officer if she took the blame for anything found, would they let the driver go? She then admitted to using meth a few hours before the traffic stop.

She also admitted to having a syringe down her pants. She removed it and handed it to an officer. It also tested positive for meth.

Roberts was arrested on charges of possession of meth and unlawful possession of a syringe.
