Washington police arrest two after shots were fired at a local bar

WASHINGTON – On Sunday at 1:15 a.m., officers with the Washington Police Department and Daviess County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of the Antique Bar on East Main Street after receiving multiple calls of shots being fired.

When officers arrived they learned there was a physical altercation between 30-year-old Edwin Gilberto Marrero, of Washington, and a female.

Witnesses said as Marrero was leaving the scene, he pointed a handgun at an individual and fired multiple shots into the air.

There were no injuries reported.

Marrero was located at a home on West Walnut street and taken into custody without incident. He is facing charges of domestic battery, criminal recklessness with a firearm, and pointing a firearm.

Officers were again called to the Antique Bar at 3:27 a.m. after another report of possible shots fired.

The caller reported there was a large fight and one of the men involved, 28-year-old Moises Vargas, of Washington, had fired a handgun into the air. He then fled the scene in a vehicle.

No one was injured during the incident.

Officers located Vargas and conducted a felony traffic stop. Vargas was detained without incident on a charge of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon.
