Man flees from police, arrested on drug charges

MITCHELL – A Mitchell man is facing new drug charges after Mitchell Police officers went to serve an arrest warrant at a home in the 40 block of Russell Drive Thursday.

Police went to a camper located on the property to arrest  44-year-old Joshua Mills on a warrant for petition to revoke.

Joshua Mills

When officers arrived they spotted Mills behind the camper and he took off running. Officers followed and while running Mills dropped a black object.

Mills ran through small limbs and trees and then down a small embankment. Mills continued to run even when an officer un-holstered his TASER and ordered Mills to stop. During the chase Mills discarded a glass smoking device and later discarded a syringe.

When the officer was roughly 15-20 feet from Mills he fired his TASER and struck Mills who then fell to the ground.

Mills was detained at that time.

In Mills’ pocket, police found 2 grams of crystal meth and also retrieved the items that Mills discarded during the chase.

Mills was transported to IU Health Bedford Hospital for a medical evaluation and then to jail on charges of possession of meth, unlawful possession of a syringe, resisting arrest, and obstruction of justice.
