Veterans Affairs Office sets December 29th to help veterans file property tax exemptions

BEDFORD – Veterans Affairs Officer Brad Bough is reminding disabled veterans of the importance of filing for their property tax exemption. They need to do so by December 31, 2022.

To help, the Lawrence County Veterans Affairs office will be open for walk-ins to help veterans file their property tax exemptions on December 29th. The office will be open from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. The office is located in the basement of the Lawrence County Courthouse.

“Just give us a call (812-275-6411) and we will set up a time to meet,” said Bough. “That day will be dedicated to just handling tax exemptions.”

Any disabled veteran or widow of a veteran who severed during a time of war can file. The deductions vary.

“If a veteran has already filed they do not need to refile. But if they have never filed they need to before the first of the year, or if they have moved to a new property they must refile. A widow of a veteran who was receiving the deduction must refile after their spouse’s death so the exemption is in their name. If they need help filling we are happy to help.”
