Bedford City Council votes to approve ordinance on solar panel installation

BEDFORD – An ordinance regarding Solar Panels for residential and business properties was approved during the Bedford City Council meeting Monday evening.

The ordinance will offer community members the necessary information on how to safely and properly install solar panels on their property. This ordinance will follow the proper building permit requirements as needed for use.

The conversation was brought before the council during the November meeting after Bedford Planning/ Zoning Director Brandon Woodward received inquiries about community members wishing to install solar panels.

Historically, the council allows for the opportunity for citizens to voice their concerns over ordinances and was tabled for third and final passage during the December meeting.

Using this as an opportunity, the City wanted to put the ordinance in place to avoid any unnecessary issues when it comes to installing solar panels.

Individuals who already have panels in place will be allowed to keep them as they currently are as they will be “grandfathered” in.
