Town of Oolitic creates resolution for all Council Members to serve at large

OOLITIC – The Town of Oolitic created a new resolution for the Election of Town Council members during their Monday night meeting.

The past two elections for Town Council seats allowed each council chair to be at large, meaning members of a governing body who are elected or appointed to represent a whole membership or population (notably a city, county, state, province, nation, club or association), rather than a subset.

The 2003 town ordinance raised the number of council members from three to five, allowing two to be at large. The current council has all five members at large.

The resolution will continue to allow any member of the community willing to run for a council seat to do so in any capacity, regardless of where they reside within town limits. This will take effect, and be a part of the 2023 election for town council and onward.
