Battle over a tablet leads to a teen arrest

BEDFORD – A 14-year-old male was detained after a report of a situational issue with a teen in the 300 block of Shawnee Drive Monday afternoon.

Bedford Police officers responded to the incident at 1:14 p.m.

According to a probable cause affidavit, when police arrived they entered the apartment and spoke to the female caller.

She told police the argument with the teen began over a tablet. She told police when she attempted to retrieve the tablet from the teen, he jumped her.

At that point, there was a verbal confrontation. During the argument, the male struck the woman approximately six times in the back.

A second female entered the room and attempted to stop the incident by grabbing the teen.

That is when the teen grabbed the second female and put her in a chokehold until she could not breathe. He finally released his chokehold when the female caller told the teen the female in the chokehold could not breathe.

The two females eventually were able to gain possession of the tablet and exited the room.

The teen was detained on charges of strangulation and domestic battery and transported to the Bedford Police Department. Juvenile probation was contacted and the teen was issued a summons to appear in Juvenile Court on December 7, 2022, at 9 a.m.

The male teen is presently on juvenile probation as a result of a prior conviction.
