Orleans Chamber officials are urging everyone to “Think Local” and support all of our small hometown shops and businesses during the upcoming holiday season and throughout the coming new year.

Chamber Executive Director Robert Henderson said that the 12th Annual “Orleans Christmas on the Square” is December 10th from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.

Planned events downtown that evening include:

Santa Claus arrives on the town’s historic 1926 fire engine and afterward, he will be available on the bandstand to hear Christmas wishes and pose for pictures.

The popular Christmas Express Children’s Train Ride returns that evening.  Horse and Carriage Rides, Orleans Tri Kappa will be set up selling warm drinks, homemade goodies, and other items.

The OHS Jr. Class will also be offering up hot chocolate and cookies that evening in the park.

Santa Hat Run will step off and there will be live musical entertainment and more.

The Orleans Public Library will have a number of fun family-type activities earlier in the day on December 10th including gingerbread man take-and-make ornament kits and books during their operating hours are from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

The Chamber will again be doing “Postcards for Santa.” with Santa’s Mailbox to be set up Thanksgiving weekend outside of the Chamber office on the north side of the square.  “Special Post Cards” will be available free of charge for pickup at various locations in town for youngsters to write their Christmas wishes to Santa.   Some of the postcards may also appear in editions of The Orleans Progress Examiner.

Crews are in the process of putting up holiday decorations in the downtown area.  The decorations in historic Congress Square are expected to be all in place and officially lit the day after Thanksgiving and remain alight throughout the Christmas Season.

The Chamber is encouraging all Orleans merchants and business owners to get into the community spirit by decorating & lighting up their storefronts and displaying windows in holiday style wherever possible to help brighten up the Dogwood Capital a bit more during the upcoming holiday season.
