Man threatens Golden Corral patron with knife and is arrested

BEDFORD – A Jasonville man was arrested Sunday after Bedford Police officers were called at 5:11 p.m. to Golden Corral after a report of a fight in progress with a male armed with a knife.

When police arrived multiple observers were pointing toward a 2018 blue Jeep Renegade that was attempting to leave the parking lot.

A Bedford Police officer blocked the vehicle in and ordered the male passenger, 59-year-old Timothy Handley, out of the passenger seat and he was detained.

Timothy Handley

Police say Handley immediately had an abusive attitude with officers, calling them explicit names. Police say Handley’s speech was slurred and they smelled the odor of alcohol emitting from Hadley’s breath and person.

Handley was then placed in the rear of a police car until he calmed down.

Officers then spoke to the female driver of the Renegade who told police the argument started over her granddaughter eating a “well-done” steak and Handley prefers his steak “medium-rare”. She told police Handley then began allegedly “making a scene” and bothering a male sitting in the booth next to them.

The male confronted Handley and there was a verbal altercation between the male and Handley. The woman told police Handley “may have had a knife in his hand but that was only because he was eating a steak” and also stated that nothing physical had occurred between the two parties.

The male who was threatened by Handley told police Handley allegedly threw either a knife or fork at the wall and threatened to cut the man. He then allegedly pointed the knife at a woman and said “I’ll kill you”.

Handley picked the knife up, “he had it clinched in his fist with the blade facing down and he was making a stabbing motion”, the male told police.

The male told police he wished to pursue charges.

The female driver told police that Handley had been “drinking whiskey” and she thought “if he ate he would calm down”.

The woman told police, Handley did threaten a woman in the booth next to them and he did have the knife in his hand and said he was going to cut her with it”.

Handley was transported to the Bedford Police Department. He continued to have an abusive attitude toward officers. Handley kept attempting to pull away from an officer and attempted to “face off with him”.

At one point, Handley had to be placed up against the wall to be subdued. He was then escorted into the booking room where he refused to sit down and had to be forcefully placed on the bench. Police say Handley continued to have an “abusive attitude”.

He was then transported to the Lawrence County Jail on two counts of intimidation with a deadly weapon, disorderly conduct, public intoxication, and resisting arrest by force.
