Man arrested after allegedly pulling juvenile’s hair

BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested Sunday on a warrant after a domestic dispute on May 10, 2022.

According to a probable cause affidavit on May 10, 2022, at 6:32 p.m. Bedford Police officers were requested after a report of an offense against a female juvenile.

Edward Pourner

The juvenile told police that she has visitation with her biological father 40-year-old Edward Pourner one weekend a month from 6 p.m. on Friday until 6 p.m. on Sunday. The female told police that on her visit on Sunday, May 8th she and her father had an alleged physical altercation.

During that fight, she alleges Pourner grabbed her by the hair and pulled her to her bedroom. Pourner told the girl she was not allowed to leave her room until it was cleaned to “his standards”.

The female said her 13-year-old brother witnessed the altercation.

The juvenile’s guardian, who has had custody of the children for around five years, told the officer Pourner has a history of domestic violence and he was concerned for the children’s safety. He told the officer he plans to obtain a protective order on behalf of the female juvenile.

The Department of Child Services was also contacted about the incident.

The juvenile female and juvenile male, who witnessed the incident, were interviewed at Susie’s Place, a child advocate service.

The child relayed the same story she had told the police but did say the visit was “normal” outside of this one incident.

The male juvenile told investigators that Pourner had allegedly gotten “very rough” with his sister and that he did witness Pourner grab his sister by the hair and drag her to her room. He remembered hearing his sister say “ow ow stop”.

Police then spoke to Pourner, who said the allegations were not true. He told police he was passing the female juvenile “in the hallway when he placed his hand on top of her head and twisted her head around the other way and she began walking back towards her room as he told her to clean it”.

He stated that “he did not pull her hair but simply changed her direction with his hand on top of her head”. He stated he did not “drag” her to her room.

Pourner told police his girlfriend was at the home at the time of the incident and witnessed it.

The girlfriend told police she saw Pourner put his hands on the girl’s head but did not see him pull her hair. He simply “escorted her to her room with his hand on the top of her head”.

The information was forwarded to the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office and a warrant was issued for Pourner’s arrest on a charge of domestic battery.
