One unconscious with head injury after vehicle travels wrong way

NEEDMORE – On Friday, November 18th, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to a crash on State Road 37 at 9:29 p.m.

According to the police report, deputies responded to State Road 37 and Trogdon Lane after dispatch received a 911 call reporting a vehicle traveling south in the northbound lane.

The driver of the 2008 red Chevrolet Impala was 36-year-old Holly McLaughlin.

Damage was first observed to a traffic signaling device that was erected on the north side of the median at State Road 37 and Pinewood Drive. 

The vehicle traveled south coming from the north side of the median at State Road 37 and State Road 54. There were approximately 542 feet of tire tracks in the northbound lane before entering the median again. Once in the median, the vehicle traveled for another approximately 889 feet before striking another erected traffic signaling device which was located in the median. The vehicle came to a stop at approximately 20 feet after striking the traffic signaling device. 

Police say the vehicle did catch fire and was completely destroyed. 

McLaughlin was unconscious and suffered a head injury. She was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.

The total estimated damages were between $10,001 and $25,000.

The vehicle was towed by Jackson’s Heavy Haul.
